Time
Giving your presence and energy
Some of the most valuable support is simply showing up and helping things run smoothly, especially around the building and our community work.
Ways you can give time
- Community Hosts: welcoming people, making tea/coffee, helping visitors feel at ease
- Building Support: setting up rooms, packing away, basic checks, keeping spaces usable
- Community Help: practical support in the area, events, serving alongside others
- One-off help: lifting/carrying, set-up days, clear-outs, odd jobs
Good to know
- You can volunteer weekly, monthly, or occasionally — we’ll try to match the role to your availability.
- Some roles may involve basic safeguarding steps depending on what you’ll be doing.
Talent
Giving your skills and experience
Your skills can unlock a lot of ministry and community impact. Some roles are behind-the-scenes but make everything possible.
Skills we can use (examples)
- Admin support: organising, emails, rotas, basic comms
- Cleaning & care: keeping the building welcoming and ready
- Maintenance: small repairs, DIY, preventative checks
- Gardening/grounds: keeping outdoor areas tidy and safe
- Grant support: researching funders, helping write bids, gathering evidence
- Service support (church roles):
- Music / musicians / singers
- Song leading / worship leading
- Audio-visual (sound, slides, livestream, recording)
Important note on church service roles
Some roles in services (especially worship leading, song leading, and AV) need to be filled by committed members of the church, because they shape our worship and teaching environment and require consistency, trust, and pastoral oversight.
That doesn’t mean “exclusive club.” It means: if you want to serve in those areas, the pathway is belonging first, then serving.
Treasure
Giving financially (one-off or regular)
Giving is not just paying bills. For Christians, it’s part of worship: a practical way of saying, “God, my life is yours.” For others who simply want to support the community work, giving helps keep the doors open and the work sustainable.
Ways to give
- One-off gift: to support the church and community projects
- Regular giving: monthly giving helps plan responsibly and grow steadily
- Specific appeals: when we have a clear project or urgent need
Gift Aid (UK)
If you’re a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid can add 25p for every £1 you give, at no extra cost to you (where eligible).
The best way to support The Light House is to come and be part of it. Join us at a Sunday service, say hello, and have a quick chat with Mark (our minister) about where you might fit, whether that’s giving time, using your skills, or supporting financially.
